Preparing the Next Generation

I  Christians are obligated by God to teach the next generation they are God’s children.

Parents have the responsibility of introducing their children to the Lord.

Psalm 78 versus 4-7 tells us how God’s truth should be passed down generation to generation.

“These are the things we learned from our ancestors and will tell them to the next generation. We won’t keep secret the glorious deeds and mighty miracles of the Lord. God gave His law to Jacob’s descendants and the people of Israel and told our ancestors to teach their children, so that each new generation would know His law and tell it to the next. Then they would trust God and obey His teachings, without forgetting anything God had done.

The time this Psalm was written of the Bible had not been fully completed.

The words of Moses in the Torah the first 5 book of the Bible were taught to the people, they were expected to pass these words about the Lord down to their children. They also did not have copies of the Torah so parents taught these truths verbally from generation to generation. Today we have the completed Bible the eternal Word of God all we need to know in instruction form the Lord.

Instruction and example are necessary to teach our children we must have consistency between what we say and do. We can’t just talk the talk we have to walk the walk in passing down God’s Word to the next generation.

  1. We need to relay our personal testimony in what God has done in our lives. We need to teach our children how to obey the Lord. Examples of how the Lord has protected, provided, encouraged, and met our needs during tribulation in our life.

Parents can’t pass this responsibility off to someone else. It’s not the pastor’s job or the Sunday school teacher’s job it’s the parent’s responsibility.

Ephesians 6:1-4 says “Children you belong to the Lord and you do the right thing when you obey your parents. The first commandant with a promise says “Obey your Father and your mother, and you will have a long happy life.” Parents do not be hard on your children. Raise them properly. Teach them and instruct them in the Lord.”

III. The condition of the world we live in makes this divine obligation urgent

There are so many distractions in our World to lead our children away from Christ, todays media access can promote the gospel but also distract young people from Christ.

Pass to our children what we learned from our parents and grandparents about Christ. (My examples mom and grandma Smith.) Like I said there is no substitute for parental responsibility.

We need to ground our children in the Word before they go off to school High school and especially college.

Our society has no interest in things of God so we must discuss spiritual truths with them.

John 14:6 “I am the way the truth the and the life no one comes to the Father but through me.”

We are living in spiritually dangerous times more and more people are disassociating with church. In the 1960’s the Love generation, Free love, immorality the pursuit of success and wealth were what was promoted.

By the 1970’s many parents had lost their children to the rebellion against God. Since then respect for one another and law and order have been on a downward spiral. WE as Christians need to take a stand or the spiral will continue downward.

We need to provide for our children’s physical, material, and educational needs. But most importantly we need to train them in the Word of God so they can live a Godly life.

Proverbs 22:6 says “teach your children right from wrong, and when they are grown they will still do right.”

The Holy Spirit will guide us in our steps showing us how to reach the next generation. There are many dissatisfied, unsettled people searching in desperation for a better way of life. They desperately need to hear from God and what He can do in their life. We need to share our testimony with them so they can have a joyful life.

Are you telling the younger generation of what God has done in your life and what he can do for them? Do you spend time with the younger generation getting to know them and instructing them?

We need to be examples to our children and grandchildren by leading a Godly Spirit filled life.

In Ephesians 4 the Apostle Paul tells us how to put off the old self and put on our new self our new ways of thinking, living and being.
There are obstacles we have to overcome that can hinder both our spiritual and personal growth.
Ephesians 4:2, 23, 31, 32

I  Four obstacles

A   May explain why some have lukewarm Faith
   1   Releasing Resentments
   2   Acquiring Acceptance
   3   Evaluating Expectations
   4   Learning to let go

II   Resentments

   A   Destroys Relationships
   1   With God
   2   With family, friends, co-workers
   B   Resentments worded politely
1   Been praying a lot for Him!
2   It’s my cross to bear
   3   I just tolerate them
C   We create our own resentments
A   Hold it in don’t want confrontation
1  Just agree to avoid conflict
           2  Take thing personally
3  Since we create them we have power to release them
4  Live in newness with Christ - Eph. 4:2

III   Unrealistic expectations

A   Can determine our happiness, peace and sense of well being
1   Set a trap if the expectation is dependent on someone else not God
2   We expect others to know our expectations even if not communicated
3   We reason they should know –risky assumption
4   When expectations not met or partially met
5   We move into a demand, or control state
    6   We actually lose control
7   Will we ever feel let down by unmet expectations?
    8   Absolutely-it’s normal
9   We can reevaluate parts of our life with Christ help

IV   Acquiring Acceptance

A   We accept people and things as they are
1   Let’s God know we have surrendered to Him
2   We can be hurt or disappointed or afraid
3   We accept the situation and can react calmly
    4   Brings joy, peace, gratitude
5   If not living in acceptance we are living in resistance
    6   Resistance brings negativity.
         Eph.4:23

V   Letting go

A   Moves us into action, problem solving, gratitude and into Real Freedom
B   Letting go doesn’t mean you don’t care
1   A form of healthy detaching
2   Forgiveness is not letting someone off the hook
     3   Un-forgiveness keeps us hooked
4   Forgiveness means we have cancelled their debt

Most of us have been hurt by someone we need to release the one who offended us that happens by cancelling their debt this allows us to make room for the new freedom we have in Christ.
Eph.4:31-32

SPIRITUAL SACRIFICE

Sermon
4-16-2017

Scriptures: 1Peter 2:5, Matthew 13:44-45, Genesis 29:18, Genesis 22:16, Romans 8:18

Living Spiritual House.

You are living stones being built.

You are part of something bigger than you.

You are a Holy Priesthood.

1Peter 2:5.

Offering Spiritual Sacrifices

Things you have to lie down

Things you see value on

What you see value on you will spend money on

You will do whatever it takes to get it

A Christian constantly has to make course corrections

Matthew 13:44-45

Sacrifices we make

The cost is I lay my life down to serve Him

Not always about you

Must fulfill what you promised

Have integrity

Every time God spoke to Abraham he did it

People go to church when it’s convenient

Genesis 29:18, Genesis 22:16

People struggle because they want their own life

Price is too high to serve God

When you lay things down God will bless you

You hold on to things because

You don’t find value in God

You can’t draw a line in the sand with God

Relationship won’t grow

It ends there

What do you want in life?

Whatever God wants you to do (do it)!

Ask God what it is

Listen to God and act on it!

Have something inside of you

When you lay your life down

God will change your life

Romans 8:18

                     Sky’s The Limit

Sermon Pastor Marc Smith W3FaithChurch Palm Harbor Florida April 6, 2017

Scriptures Numbers 13:26-33 Numbers14:3, 6-8, 24 Ephesians: 15-20 Mark 4:2-8

Mark 4:24 Psalm 78:41

There is no limit to what God can do in a believer’s life. We can limit ourselves by how we view ourselves. Remember the OT story how God promised the Israelites the Promised Land, but their fear prevented them from entering the Promised Land. If we do not renew our minds to our identity in Christ we will see ourselves as weak and not being able to do what God has for us. We need to see God as being able to accomplish all that He wants us to do.

A.Our thoughts can either limit us or they can remove any obstacles that are put in our way.

  1. The spies He sent into the land came back to Moses and Aaron and said the land is filled with milk and honey they brought back fruit as evidence.

But the people are strong and cities are large and well- fortified. The sons of Anak are there they are giants and strong they will squash us like bugs. Only Caleb said let’s go possess the land and conquer it God will be with us. His fellow spies gave a negative report if we go we die! Numbers 13:26-33

  1. When God gives us a plan or vision the will always be obstacles to overcome
  2. Caleb had confidence in God’s people, we should be thankful for Godly people in our lives.
  3. The evil report of the spies went against the Word of God.

  1. All the people cried out and wept all night long. They mumbled about Moses and Aaron and said they would have been better off dying in Egypt or the wilderness. Joshua and Caleb were so upset with the people they tore their cloths they told the people the land they spied on is very good land and if God delights in us He will give it to us. Caleb found favor with God.

Numbers 14:3, 6,-8, 24

  1. The people were defeated by their outlook and how they saw the situation.
  2. Caleb had a spirit of Faith and was willing to believe and trust God’s Word .His capacity to receive from God was enlarged.
  3. God wants the best for us just like He wanted for the children of Israel.

  1. Ephesians 3:15-20
  2. God has no limits He wants His children to live the same way, with no limits, so they may experience His fullest Blessings.
  3. What we listen to can build our Faith or tear it down
  4. Mark 4:2-8
  5. When the seed of the Word of God is sown into our lives we must be ready to receive it. Stony or thorny ground can limit the harvest He wants us to have.
  6. We cannot live in fear it hinders and chokes what God wants to do in our lives. We must not fear what others think.

  1. Mark 4:24
  2. We must not let what we hear affect us in a negative manner live the spies negative report did to the children of Israel
  3. The amount of time we spending meditating on the Word of God determines the amount of Power that comes back to us.
  4. Paying too much attention to worldly happenings blocks our ability to hear God speaking to us.

  1. Psalm 78:41
  2. The people could not enter into a place of rest or receive the manifestations of the promise because of their unbelief.

b. We must remove all limitations in all areas of our life.

Faith and Violence

Does A Belief in God Cause Violent Actions Toward Others?

Dr. Marc Smith sermon March 30, 2017
Context from Brutal Faith Dr. Alex McFarland
Christian Counseling Today.

There are religious extremists who are very religious group of people who sell their daughters into sex slavery and local leaders of very village who have a young boy who is used as a human sex toy called a “chesca” Western people have a reaction to this is that faith itself is a negative thing.

Christians will say that tragedies like this are usually the result of not having a Biblical foundation for morality not being present. More and More Westerners who do not have a Christian view make the assumption that religion is of full of disease that leads people to do evil things.

I.             Anti- feeling against Faith and Religion

A.            Religion/faith definition devotion to a deity the pursuit of God and salvation through certain rituals and ceremonies.

B.            Western Belief- religion provokes violence causing harm to humans.
1.             The world is orderly and intelligent
2.             God not an author of confusion
3.             Last 150 years’ academia embraced Darwinism and materialism

C.             Growing hostility to religion
1.               From atheistic philosophers, militant secularists, and academicians
2.               Science the only test for truth
3.               Specifically, toward Christianity

D.            Society -Conventional religion not an effective force for
1.             Moral behavior
2.             Against Criminal activity

Author Jonathan Swift (Gulliver’s Travels) said “We have just enough religion to make us hate,
but not enough to make us love one another.”

II.            Does the Bible suggest Aggression?
A.            Does the Bible encourage Acts of Aggression?
1.             Cain murdered Abel out of jealousy
2.             Joseph’s brothers threw him into a well leaving him for dead
3.             Peter cut a priest’s servants ear off defending Jesus. Matthew 26:52-54

These examples were not meant to further our beliefs; they were examples of sinful and
fallen people who had what the world had to offer, rather than God’s plan for their lives.

4.             Headlines today focusing on acts of violence carried out based on their beliefs.
5.             Muslims, Christians, Hindus, and Buddhists all guilty

Singer songwriter Elton John said “All organized religion should be banned because of the hate that is born from it.”

Daily papers are filled with random acts of violence from around the world done in the name of religion.

III.         Why people to carry out acts of violence in the name of God?
A.            Jesus’s warning” The time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God.” John 16:2
1.             Jesus never called His people to violence.
2.             Turn the other cheek.
3.             Churches – no longer safe haven bombings, fires, attacks.
4.             No violence is carried out in peace and love.

IV.          Religious violence – should we become secular?
A.            Some turn away from faith because of violent acts
1.             Christianity cannot be true to much suffering in the world
2.             Why would a loving God call people to be hateful?
3.             He doesn’t we live in a fallen world
4.             Leaders must promote morality
5.             Reality -our world is lost without God.

V.            Keeping or finding faith in a hostile world
1.             New York Daily News “God isn’t fixing this” after the deadly shooting in San Bernardino California. In the name of religion – Islam
2.             The more we become anti God –anti-Christian the more violent our culture will become.
3.             We don’t have a violence problem-We have a God problem
4.             Don’t blame God for not fixing all our problems – reinforce Biblical truth.
5.             Christian must do our part defend our beliefs and promote Jesus’s peaceful Bible teachings.

Truth is satan is real his goal is to destroy the human race, things of this world are objectively evil, they are bound in sin, evil, and satan’s lies. We can’t put a spin on things and say that’s the way the world is; it cannot change the dark nature of any person who uses violence in the name of ANY Religion.

Jesus’s plan is much better than anything we can come up with. He never promised us an easy and peaceful life. We can be comforted by His Word. That nothing can separate us from His love. This is the message we need to proclaim to a lost World. Our hope rests in Jesus Christ.

What is Your View of God?

3/26/17

Some people view God as a loving grandfather who is waiting to bless them while others see Him as a harsh judge who sits in heaven on His throne waiting to dole out punishment. Others don’t believe in God they want to live according to their own rules rather than in obedience to a divine authority. The only way to truly know God is to believe what is written about Him in the Scriptures.

Romans 1:19-20

If we deny the truth it will bring ultimate disaster the 2nd death. When we are convinced the Word of God is true we have a sure foundation for our convictions about God.

If you had to write your own personal description of God and what He is like what would you say? How much of you description comes from His Word and how much comes from your experiences and blessing? Are you influenced by the ideas of what other people think about Him?

What comfort comes from knowing he is a righteous judge?
